"Midnight Travellers of the Universe" - Day 7

Day 7 - Theatre Camp

Before all the magic of performance day happens there is work....and lots of it!

Our ever energetic actors blocked and rehearsed and repeated over and over and over their moves, their props, their directions.

Working in the theatre with children is a special skill.  The adults need to take cues from the children and the children need to take direction from their mentors.

The lines blur when you, the actor, become you, the audience...it's all good fun!

Emote, emote, emote!

At the end of the day the sun and moon appear and all is in balance.

Here are some pics from yesterday. After a week rehearsing at El Centro Cultural, we moved for our final week to Lakeside Little Theater. We did a lot today. Abril led the kids through almost the entire show, blocking and becoming familiar with the props.

The afternoon ended on a high note, with all writers reading their stories to musical accompaniment, led by the Blue Velvet group.  Student musicians were also able to practice with the group.

Bat Masks

As our workshops and rehearsals unfold, everyday brings new surprises and adventures.

Nosy Star

Our theatre elves have been hard at work planning, organizing and creating the magical components of our presentation.

Everyone gets into the spirit of the workshops and magic appears.

And just when you thought you had seen it all, our Maestro Antonio Lopez Vega brings materials from the lakeshore to create Sand Drawings with the children.

 Staging/Readings
Rehearsals

Time to rehearse steps and motion.   Most of the children were spot on!

Authors of some of the original work read their stories.

Even Luna wanted to read....then she forgot that she hasn't learned to read yet.  Luna's Mom promised to show her how.

Day 2 - Theatre Camp

Today, upstairs at the Centro Cultural, the kids began creating the artwork that will be projected to accompany their stories at the performance. Ideas for the drawings came both from their imaginations and from pictures they saw on a laptops; bats, butterflies, and other images. Those who were finished went downstairs to the stage and began rehearsing the presentation of their story. It's a pleasure to take their pictures.

The themes of the day were travelling, hummingbirds and migration.  Sand drawings were also explored and drawn.

There was also quite a bit of rehearing of lines in smaller groups.
